UNL Fraternity Suspended

The University of Nebraska announced Wednesday that they have suspended the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity until 2018.

The suspension comes after an investigation that found a pattern of behaviors by members that violated the University's Student Code of Conduct.

The fraternity had been placed on a temporary suspension in 2016 after claims of misconduct by members.

The decision to suspend the Lincoln chapter came after the university worked with the national Phi Kappa Psi organization and found evidence that supported the claims of misconduct.

In December the University learned that there were series of alcohol abuse in the house and at off campus parties. At that time concerns were also voiced about the treatment of fraternity pledges and property damage to other Greek chapter houses at UNL by Phi Kappa Psi members.

Vice President of Student Affairs Juan Franco says, "Promoting an environment of respect and care among our students is of utmost importance. While it is unfortunate that this action has to be taken, it is an appropriate action."

The fraternity's house was ordered to remain empty until 2019, and once members are allowed to live there again it can only be upper level members. Underclassmen will not be allowed to live at the house again until 2020.

Phi Kappa Psi must immediately suspend all activities and will no longer be recognized as a Greek organization at UNL.
