Shots Fired During Pursuit

A teenager is in custody after an overnight pursuit with the Nebraska State Patrol near Valley. During the pursuit, authorities say the suspect  fired a gun at the trooper.

It all started around 12:15 Tuesday morning when the state trooper began to pursue a car on Highway 275 after speed radar clocked the suspect traveling 93 miles per hour in a 65 MPH zone.

When the trooper ran the plates, the car came back stolen out of Omaha.  The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect fled and fired several shots at the trooper. Neither the trooper nor his patrol car were hit.

The vehicle drove through a field to avoid pursuit but eventually returned to the roadway, crashing near Reichmuth Circle and Fort Circle. The suspect then ran from officers, jumping a fence near a Menard's supply yard.

The Omaha Police helicopter and a K9 unit were able to track down the 17 year old suspect. He was taken into custody and is being treated for bite wounds.

The State Patrol, Omaha Police, Waterloo Police, Valley Police, and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office all assisted in the search.
