Phi Kappa Psi National Suspends Creighton Chapter

The national branch of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity has opened their own investigation into a possible hazing that led to a Creighton student getting cut in the throat.

Monday Creighton suspended the Nebraska Beta chapter on campus, and now the national branch has issued a suspension of their own.

Early Saturday morning 19 year old Christopher Wheeler was arrested after allegedly cutting 18 year old Teresa Spagna in the Gallagher Hall dormitory.

Wheeler says he was forced by fraternity members to take drugs as part of joining Phi Kappa Psi and that the drugs caused his erratic behavior.

The fraternity has a policy against forced drug or alcohol use and says, "We remain focused on holding our chapters to high standards in promoting safe and healthy environments for our members and others in the campus community."

Adding, "Phi Kappa Psi continues to extend thoughts and prayers to Teresa Spagna and her family. We wish her a speedy recovery."

They say Wheeler was a new member, but hadn't formally been inducted into the fraternity yet. Wheeler is no longer a part of the fraternity.

Creighton students have been barred from wearing any Phi Kappa Psi gear on campus during the suspension.
