Drive Home Should Be Much Smoother

The snow took a toll on commuters Wednesday morning, but the drive home will be much easier.

Street Maintenance Engineer Austin Rowser says the early morning snow fall came just as rush hour hit making things slow going for plows. "It is hard when it's during the rush hour. Just because it does slow cars down, and when there's more traffic and it's going slower, obviously our plows are going slower. But they're definitely out there doing their job."

Rowser also says the temperatures were colder than they expected, causing the salt to be less effective. "To get below fifteen degrees, kinda lose effectiveness of the salt. So that was something that just took it longer to get active and to work this morning, which left things a little bit slick a little longer. But everything else seemed to be working ok."

Although the sun is out and most roads are clear, Rowser says plows will still be out overnight to treat any slick spots that redevelop.
