Governor Pete Ricketts announced Monday his choice to replace Papillion Senator Bill Kintner.
Ricketts selected Robert Clements as Kintner's replacement.
Clements fills the Unicameral seat that was left empty after Kintner stepped down in January amid a Twitter controversy. The Governor was joined by Chief Justice Heavican to swear Clements in.
The new Senator will serve the people of Cass County, and parts of Sarpy and Otoe Counties in Legislative District 2.
Clements has worked for a bank in Elmwood for nearly 40 years, and his experience in small business was seen as a plus for the position.
Kintner had faced a number of controversies during his time as senator, and decided to resign after a re-tweet he made suggesting that some protesters at the women's march in January were not attractive enough to be sexually assaulted.
Ricketts accepted Kintner's resignation and went to work on filling his seat. There were 35 applicants for the job, but Clements was not one of the 35.
The Governor says his team widened their search beyond the applicants to ensure everyone who was interested was contacted.
