No Charges Filed For Teen Who Shot His Father

No charges will be filed against a 17 year old who accidentally shot and killed his father Tuesday night.

Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine tells Newsradio 1110 KFAB that the boy was attempting to unload his father's gun when it went off. "The dad had several guns in the residence and the son observed that it was loaded and said 'Hey this should probably be unloaded.' and was attempting to unload it when the gun fired."

Kleine says Benjamin Majestic was celebrating his 44th birthday with his son at his home near 144th and Maple when incident occurred. "During the course of that visit this gun was observed to be loaded and son was attempting to unload it and he fired the gun by accident and it shot dad in the head."

After shooting his father Kleine says the boy jumped into action. "He called 911 immediately. Said 'I've accidentally shot my father' totally distraught. All of the evidence points to this totally being an accident."

Majestic was transported to Nebraska Medicine where he later died from his injuries.
