An 11 year old boy was killed while walking home from school Wednesday afternoon. Wahoo Public School officials identify him as Mason Triplett. "We are extremely saddened by this event and express our sincerest condolences to Mason's family, friends and classmates," according to a statement on the district's Facebook page.
Triplett was a fifth grade student and was walking home by himself when he was hit by a pickup at the corner of 23rd and Chestnut Street, just south of Highway 77. He was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead.
Authorities say the pickup driver is cooperating in the investigation. The district will have counselors available at each building to meet with students and staff on Thursday morning.
