AAA Offering Free Rides And Tows This Weekend

Those who have one too many drinks this Super Bowl weekend can get a free ride in a tow truck as their vehicle is hauled home.  AAA's "Tow to Go" expands across Nebraska and Iowa this weekend.  The Auto Club Group Traffic Safety Foundation provides the program to keep all motorists safe from the dangers of impaired driving.

The program started in 1998 and has safely removed more than 24,000 impaired drivers from roads across the Southeast and Midwest.  It is designed to be a safety net for drivers who did not plan ahead when drinking away from home.

AAA's Vice President Kevin Bakewell says the drivers are offered a confidential local ride to a safe location within a 10 mile limit.  It is free and available to AAA members and non-members.  The AAA service vehicle transports the driver and their car.  It may not be available in rural areas or during severe weather conditions.  Before this weekend the program was only available in Omaha and Lincoln but it is now statewide in Nebraska and Iowa.

It is estimated that one in every three fatal crashes in Nebraska is alcohol related.  This Super Bowl weekend is one of ten holiday weekends when the free service is offered in both states.  Other holidays include St. Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving and the Christmas - New Year's Eve holiday periods.

The number to call is 855-2-TOW-2-GO OR 855-286-9246.
