The California Highway Patrol’s Oakland office shared photos on this week showing the aftermath of a brief vehicle pursuit after a speeding driver in a Maserati refused to stop for an officer attempting to pull him over.
The 32-year-old male driver on 580 westbound accelerated to over 100 mph and a pursuit ensued. The driver allegedly exited the freeway at West Street, drove up an embankment and collided with the underside of the freeway.
The driver was taken to a local hospital due to a complaint of pain and will be facing charges for reckless evading. Police note that it's amazing he survived the crash. An investigation is underway.
