Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine has just announced no charges against the Old Market bar owner taken into custody following the shooting death of 22-yr-old James Scurlock. The altercation occurred during Saturday night’s civil disobedience that resulted in many broken windows, graffiti, and law enforcement deploying pepper spray.
Video shown from the incident showed the bar owner’s 68-yr-old father knocked to the ground, a fight breaks out resulting in the bar owner on his back in the street with Scurlock on top of him choking him. After yelling for Scurlock to get off of him, the shots were fired. Kleine said this amounts to self-defense, while also saying he’s open to any new evidence that could be presented in this case.
