Women's Mental Health Better With No Booze

WOMEN'S MENTAL HEALTH MAY IMPROVE AFTER QUITTING ALCOHOL

Women could really benefit from quitting alcohol. A new study looked at more than 10,000 drinkers and non-drinkers from a study done in Hong Kong, and compared it with health data from people in the U.S.(people who consumed 14 drinks or less each week, and women who consume seven drinks or less are defined as moderate drinkers.)

The men and women the Hong Kong study who never drank alcohol in their lives had the highest state of mental well-being. Researchers say women who drink moderate amounts of alcohol or quit the habit altogether have better mental well-being outcomes compared to those who keep drinking more than moderately.

Researcher Michael Ni notes, "More evidence suggests caution in recommending moderate drinking as part of a healthy diet."
