Rising Trend: Men Getting Plastic Surgery

Women are stereotypically the group most-concerned about appearance, but new statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reveals there's an uptick in men turning to plastic surgery to enhance their looks and build confidence. Lorelei Grunwaldt, MD, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Pittsburgh, says she sees a lot of young men who are looking for body contouring procedures.

The data shows procedures such as liposuction (up 23%) and tummy tucks (up 12%) have seen a boost in popularity among male patients in the past five years. In the same time frame, male breast reductions have increased about 30 percent.

Also, more older men are turning to minimally-invasive procedures to take years off their faces-- nearly 100,000 men had filler injections in 2017, up 99 percent since 2000.
