(Omaha, NE) -- Most parts of eastern Nebraska and western Iowa are will be under a winter storm watch to ring in the New Year.
The National Weather Services says the watch is in effect from Friday night through Saturday evening in Nebraska in: Cass, Douglas, Gage, Jefferson, Johnson, Lancaster, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee Richardson Saline, Sarpy, Saunders and Seward counties. The counties in southeastern Nebraska are expected to see four to eight inches of snow. Douglas, Sarpy and Saunders counties are expected to see anywhere between two to five inches.
In western Iowa, a winter storm watch is in effect from Saturday morning through Saturday night. In Fremont, Mills, Montgomery and Page counties, four to eight inches are expected. Pottawattamie County snow totals are expected between two and five inches.
The Weather Service says along with the snow, wind chills as low as -20 could be reported. They say temperatures that low can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
