(Omaha, NE) -- A man who admitted to several news outlets that he killed a convicted sex offender is sentenced on 2nd degree murder charges.

On Wednesday, James Fairbanks was sentenced to 30-50 years for second-degree murder and 10-20 years for possession of a firearm while committing a felony. Fairbanks pled no contest to the 2020 killing of 64 year old Mattieo Condoluci.

Fairbanks had sent a letter to 6 News, and other local media outlets, saying he “felt sick to his stomach” when he saw Condoluci watching children in the area of 43rd and Pinkney. Fairbanks said he had been looking for an apartment in the area when he spotted Condoluci 'pretending to wash his truck', but Fairbanks said he was really 'staring at a group of kids playing in the street.'.

Condoluci had spent 2.5 years in Sarpy County Jail in 2006 for sexually assaulting a child and had been previously convicted of attempted lewd or lascivious acts in Florida in 1994.
