Because of a long rain delay, the Thursday night CWS elimination game between Texas and Virginia ended early Friday morning with the Longhorns defeating the Cavaliers 6 - 2 to advance to the semifinals.
Texas has a quick turnaround to be back on the field Friday evening at six against Mississippi St. in a game to be televised on ESPN.
In the first game on Friday, North Carolina State plays Vanderbilt at one p.m. That game will be televised on ESPN2.
The Wolfpack and Bulldogs are unbeaten in the tournament, so Texas and Vandy would need two wins to advance to the National Championship best-of-three on Monday.
