(Lincoln, NE) -- Lincoln Police say a man they believed may have been impersonating an LPD officer on Wednesday, was actually an officer of the Lancaster County Court.
LPD says on Wednesday, they got a report from a woman who thought that a man who came to her home in the 900 block of South 14th Street may have been impersonating an officer. Investigators say the woman told officers that an unknown man came to the home, identified himself as a police officer, and asked for her by name. She told officers that when she questioned him further about his identity, the man left. At the time, LPD said they did not have any evidence that a police officer or investigator was working in that area at the time of the incident.
Thursday afternoon, LPD officers received a phone call from a constable out of Lancaster County Court. They say the constable works for Greiner Process Service and works out of District 3 for Judge Joe Dalton. LPD says that the constable explained that he'd seen a news story today about someone impersonating a police officer at a residence in the 900 block of South 14th Street. Police say the constable realized that he was attempting to serve someone eviction papers at that date, time, and location.
LPD says the constable was, "Very concerned that someone believed he was impersonating a police officer, so he called LPD to explain the situation." The constable told police that he never identified himself as a police officer., and that he is trained to identify himself as a constable out of Lancaster County and an 'officer of the court.'
Police say the constable did eventually serve the eviction papers to the woman who called police.
