(Lincoln, NE) -- The Lincoln Police Department is releasing more details about the death of a man found in a home Monday morning.
During a press briefing Thursday morning, Acting Police Chief Brian Jackson said that 33 year old James Shekie died from a gunshot wound. Jackson said that around 2:00 Friday morning, a neighbor near the 4200 block of 20th Street heard a loud noise, but 911 was not called and police did not respond.
Monday morning, officers were called to Shekie's home after neighbors reported seeing a door to the house left open for an extended amount of time. Once on the scene, officers found Shekie dead and the home in disarray.
Jackson said it appears the act of violence was limited to the residence and investigators don't believe there is an ongoing threat to the public. He added that the department wouldn't be releasing further information in order to protect the integrity of the investigation. “We are doing everything in our power to identify the person or persons who killed him,” Jackson said.
Anyone with information is asked to call 402-441-6000 or make an anonymous report at Lincoln Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.”
