Home explosion victim dies at Kansas City hospital

One of the men critically injured in a Tuesday morning home explosion in South Omaha has died.

Omaha Police say 28 year old Alexander Toledo died on Wednesday at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. Police say Toledo had been transferred to the Kansas hospital shortly after the explosion for further treatment.

Also killed in the explosion were Alexander's grandmother 73 year old Theresa Toledo, the home's owner, and Alexander's mother 45 year old Angela Miller. Police say another man, 72 year old Larry Rodriguez, was also critically injured in the blast. He remains hospitalized at Nebraska Medicine.

Noting she was concerned for the safety of herself and “afraid he will start my house on fire,” Theresa Toledo had filed a domestic abuse protection order Monday in Douglas County district court against Alexander, her grandson, petitioning for his removal from the property.

OPD says that Omaha Fire Department Arson Investigators continue to conduct evidence collection and documentation at the scene. They say the scene is extensive and will take time to process. Omaha Police Department Homicide Unit Detectives are assisting the Omaha Fire Department with witness interviews, crime scene mapping and video review in an effort to determine the cause of the explosion.

The explosion remains under investigation by the Omaha Fire Department and OPD.
