A new case of an illness reported in children link to COVID-19 has been reported in Douglas County.
Two cases of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children were reported in June and on Wednesday, the Douglas County Health Department reported a third case.
The Health Department says the child is under the age of ten and was admitted to Children's Hospital on Sunday. The say the child tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies and has no comorbidities. Many children recover from MIS-C with medical treatment.
DCHD says MIS-C can cause an inflammation in a range of body parts and vital organs. They say the exact cause of MIS-C hasn’t been confirmed, but many children with the condition had been infected by or were in contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case. MIS-C is just one complication with a suspected connection to COVID-19.
