A suspect suffered life-threatening injuries Tuesday during negotiations with law enforcement.
The Lincoln Police Department says around 9:00 Tuesday morning, members of the Metro Area Fugitive Task Force were looking for 35 year old Douglas Shaw at a home near 40th and Old Cheney Road when investigators learned the man was in the home and armed with a gun. Police say Shaw was wanted for having active arrest warrants for theft, strangulation and delivery of a controlled substance.
LPD says once investigators were able to confirm that Shaw was armed with a gun, they handed duties over to the Lancaster County Tactical Response Unit. Police say Lincoln Fire and Rescue personnel were also stationed in the area.
Investigators say after prolonged negotiations between Shaw and law enforcement, a single gunshot was heard from inside the residence. Once inside the home, police found Shaw with a gunshot wound to the head and immediately called medical units into the residence. Police say a handgun was recovered near Shaw, who was transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries.
Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner then contacted the Lincoln Police Department to request investigative assistance as the incident involved a serious in-custody injury. The Lincoln Police Department says their crime scene technicians are processing the scene for evidence and will remain in the area. They say the preliminary investigation has determined that no shots were fired by law enforcement during the incident.
The investigation by the Lincoln Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit is still in its preliminary stages, and more details will be released once the investigation is complete.
