Omaha Police have arrested a man they say sexually assaulted a 15 year old girl.
OPD says just before 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, officers got called to the area of 37th and Fowler for a reported sexual assault. Investigators say there, officers met with the caller who told officers that her 15 year old daughter was walking near 37th and Grand Avenue when a black male, driving a dark-colored SUV, approached her.
Police say the teen reported that the driver blocked her pathway and told her to get into his vehicle, to which the girl declined. Investigators say the man became verbally aggressive towards the girl and that, out of fear, she got into the SUV. OPD says after getting the girl into the vehicle, the man drove to a parking lot in the area of 47th and Military Ave, where he sexually assaulted the teen.
OPD says the girl was able to escape, run home and tell her mother what happened. They say the girl was taken to Project Harmony, where she was interviewed by detectives with the Child Abuse Squad. Investigators say the girl was able to describe the suspect, the vehicle and was able to provide a partial license plate number. Police say from that information, detectives were able to put together a photo lineup that included the suspect.
From the lineup, police say, the teen was able to identify her attacker.
Police say on Wednesday, detectives executed a search warrant at a home near 100th and Arcadia Plaza where the suspect, 28 year old Davon Carroll, was detained and subsequently taken to Central Headquarters for questioning. Police say during his interview, Carroll admitted to having sexual contact with the girl.
Carroll was then taken to Douglas County Corrections and booked on two counts of First Degree Sexual Assault of a Child.
