The Sons of Italy organization says they're struggling to keep the doors open and the lights on.
In January 2017 a fire tore through their hall and after years of rebuilding the hall finally reopened to feed Omahans in February of this year. Sons of Italy members thought they were finally back on their feet, but then the COVID-19 pandemic hit, forcing them to close their doors again.
Last week, the hall was able to once again open their doors for diners, but the organization says the turnout was far smaller than they anticipated. Sons of Italy says they are hoping that people will get more comfortable coming out to lunch. They say there is social distancing while you wait for your food, a mask must be worn to enter and there’s an extra clean up detail working the room.
The organization says they need to make money to help pay for their new building and continue to help their charities.
Lunch is served at the Sons of Italy hall Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and they are offering meals to go. Dinner will also be served at the hall on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
