Metro drought conditions improve after recent rain, still very dry

Drought conditions in the Omaha metro are slightly better after heavy rains blanketed the area last week, but conditions are still abnormally dry.

6 New's First Alert Meteorologist Rusty Lord says there was a little improvement noticed as the extreme drought category shrunk, but that overall the Omaha metro is still very dry. Omaha is nearly 11 inches below average on rainfall.

Lord says while last’s week rain did help, it wasn’t enough to fix the problems we have. He says the metro will likely see things get worse the rest of the month. Very few rain chances are in the forecast over the next ten days and the precipitation outlook for the rest of the month doesn’t hold much promise either.

First Alert meteorologists say warm and dry conditions are likely to be the story for the majority of the second half of September.
