Lincoln Police provide details for Mario Herrera's funeral

The Lincoln Police Department is providing more details for members of the public who would like to attend Investigator Mario Herrera's funeral.

The funeral will be open to the public. Doors at the Pinnacle Bank Arena will open to the public at 8:30 Saturday morning. Police say a clear bag policy will be in effect inside the arena.

The only entrance the public will be able to use is the entrance off the pedestrian bridge from the festival lot, on the northeast corner of the building. Police ask that the public park in the Pinnacle Bank Arena Festival Lot and walk over the pedestrian bridge to the arena. You can see a map here.

For those who would rather line the streets of the funeral route, procession information can be found below:

  • The pre-funeral procession will leave Butherus-Maser & Love Funeral Home at 8:30 AM, travel east on A Street then south on S. 48th Street to Normal Blvd. The procession will continue northwest on Normal Blvd toward downtown, turning north on Antelope Valley Parkway, west on N Street and then north on Pinnacle Arena Drive until reaching the arena. A map of pre-funeral route can be viewed here.
  • The post-funeral procession will follow Pinnacle Arena Drive north, veering right at N 9th Street to travel south. The procession will continue south on N 9th Street, turning east on O Street, south on S 27th Street, east on Randolph Street, then north on S 40th Street to O Street, where it will end. You can find a map of that post-funeral procession here.

Lincoln Police want residents to know that due to the funeral, other agencies will be in the city to assist them on Saturday. The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, University of Nebraska Police and Nebraska State Patrol will be on hand to respond to calls for service within the city limits. If residents need to make a report or have an emergency, Lincoln Police say they should be aware that they may see a different agency responding.
