Nebraska lawmakers are back in session, four months after the pandemic stopped the 60-day session on day 43.
Plexiglass now surrounds each of the 49 senators in the Capitol chambers. Lawmakers are planning to discuss worker safety, food security and renter's protection during the resumed session.
"I know that people are hurting. I know my office has helped 200 people get their unemployment. Not just from my district but from across the state," State Senator Machaela Cavanaugh says.
State Senator Megan Hunt said “This pandemic is exposing inequality in housing, health care, childcare, and food security. Each of these things is a racial justice, as well.”
While the priority bills were filed long ago, these senators believe there’s room to include these issues in the next 17-days and convince their colleagues of the same.
