Douglas County Voters Reminded to send in their Early Ballots

Douglas County voters who received a by-mail ballot for the 2020 Primary Election are being reminded that they need to fill out their ballot and send it back in.

Douglas County Election Commissioner Brian Kruse says less than 50% of ballots have been sent to them so far. “About 46% of by-mail ballots have been returned so far, and we expect the daily returns to increase each day as we get closer to Election Day.”

Early voting ballots must be returned to the Douglas County Election Commission by 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12th by mail or to an official ballot drop box.

For voters that are new to by-mail voting and may be unfamiliar with the process, have been provided the following reminders:

  • Contact the Election Commission at (402) 444-VOTE (8683) if you made a mistake or need a replacement ballot. Replacement requests can be made until 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.
  • Voting by mail replaces voting regularly at the polling place. Provisional voting is offered to those voters that had an issue with their by-mail ballot. Provisional voting requires a voter to complete additional information including a Voter Registration Application. After the election, the provisional information is reviewed and a determination is made if the ballot can be counted.
  • Early voting ballots will not be accepted at polling places on Election Day.
  • Follow the instructions included with the ballot. Each voter must place their ballot into the Identification Envelope that was provided; do not place more than one voter’s ballot into an Envelope. The voter must sign the back of the Envelope where indicated.

Voters with questions about early voting should contact the Douglas County Election Commission at (402) 444-VOTE (8683).
