Mayor Stothert Says City Has Hospital Beds, Ventilators Available

As the number of COVID-19 Coronavirus cases continue to rise in Douglas County Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert is assuring citizens that there are enough ventilators and beds available. "In the City of Omaha we have 191 (ICU) beds. Currently, 98 are available," Stothert says.

Mayor Jean Stothert says citywide there are 846 medical and surgical beds and more than half are available. She says nine people are currently hospitalized in Omaha due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Stothert says there are 231 ventilators with 175 available. Douglas County Health Director Adi Pour announced Thursday that four more people have tested positive for the coronavirus, bringing the county total to 44. Those who aren’t hospitalized are recovering at home in isolation and she Pour says that many have experienced only mild symptoms.

There are nine total cases of community spread in Douglas County according to Pour. The Douglas County coronavirus hotline (402-444-3400). Pour said on Thursday they are receiving 250 to 350 calls per day. Many of them are wanting to know why they can't get tested.
