Governor Ricketts Updates Nebraskans On COVID-19 Coronavirus

LINCOLN, Nebraska - Governor Pete Ricketts provided Nebraskans an update on the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak.

There is a second community spread case of the virus in Nebraska. 6 News reports there is concern that there is not enough test kits available for those who might be ill.

"Right now we are focusing on people who are most at risk but we know we want to expand that down the road,"

The state will also follow the CDC guidelines when it comes to day care facilities. Ten children per room in daycare and they will not mix with other groups. They will not eat or have playtime together.

Due to the second community case, Ricketts asked that restaurants change to delivery or take-out only. Bars will also close.

Kathy Siefken with the Nebraska Grocery Industry Association attended the news conference and says there is no shortage of food. Not all items, including paper products and cleaning supplies are available right now because of excessive buying by others. She says the supply chain is stable and conditions will return to normal soon. Ricketts asks that Nebraskans only buy what they need and that stores will remain open.

Shoppers are asked not to use reusable bags and use the ones provided at the retailer. It is also suggested that others do shopping for those who are considered high risk.
