Nebraska Vaping Ban Bill Advances

LINCOLN, Nebraska - As promised, Nebraska Lawmakers spent part of Thursday rewording language in a bill that would ban vaping inside public buildings.

There was a problem using the word vapor that would have included other electronic products, like humidifiers and asthma inhalers. 6 News reports the wording now includes “prohibit the use of an electronic smoking device that creates an aerosol or vapor.”

A Health and Human Services Committee amendment allows e-cigarette use in vape stores and they are exempt from the Clean Indoor Air Act. Customers would still be able to sample products in the store if they are 21 or older.

State Senator Mike Groene is not in favor of the bill and says it could hurt vape shops. He said, "Let's not demonize everything." Groene says most of the vape related fatalities were caused by people using marijuana vape cartridges that are not sold in Nebraska.
