Seward County authorities say a man was killed Thursday afternoon as he tried to run away from a traffic stop on I-80 near mile marker 385.
According to the sheriff's office, a deputy stopped a vehicle around 3:15 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-80 near Milford.
The sheriff says the deputy discovered "a large number of narcotics." The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, then jumped out and fled into traffic.
Investigators say the man ran through the eastbound lanes and crossed into the westbound lanes and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
The unidentified man was taken to Seward Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
No one else was injured.
