Stretch Of Harrison Street Set To Reopen

Good news for metro area drivers. At 9:30 Friday morning, Harrison Street from 147th to 150th will reopen with some lane restrictions as crews finish up final stages in the coming days.

This marks the completion of the Harrison Street Project which began in 2017 and included three phases.

The project expanded the road to four lanes, added turning lanes, a median and sound walls to reduce traffic noise in the neighborhoods.

Some residents say they understand there's no gain without a little pain.

"The construction that is happening does happen fairly quickly, which is a surprise. There is a lot of congestion here, we do get a little bit of traffic from people going home," Paul Cardenas, who leaves near the project, told 6 News.

The cost of the $10 million project is being shared equally between Sarpy county and the City of Omaha.

Sarpy County Public Works reminds the public to drive safely and use caution as the work is completed.
