OMAHA, Nebraska - Two snow leopard cubs at the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium have a new home.
The male and female cubs, along with their mother were moved to the new Asian Highlands Exhibit on Wednesday morning.
Zoo Director Dennis Pate says, "They are at the stage where they are climbing. They are investigating and are curious about everything. They are curious about twigs. They are curious about snowflakes. They are in that neat stage. They are a lot of fun to watch as they explore."
Pate says they have not had a lot of contact with the public as they were being kept in the old Cat Complex that closed to public viewing earlier this year.
Pate says they are also the first babies to be introduced to the Asian Highlands Exhibit. They hope to add tigers next and they have a new cub that was born early last summer that will also call the exhibit home.
The male and female snow leopard cubs were born on May 22nd. They are the 14th and 15th snow leopard cubs to be born in the U.S. this year. Pate says there are 174 snow leopards now in the U.S. and every birth gives hope for the species.
