New Report Shows Farm Bankruptcies Up In Nebraska And Iowa

A new report shows Chapter 12 farms bankruptcies are up in Iowa and Nebraska.

The study by the American Farm Bureau Federation shows Nebraska had 37 farm bankruptcies, up six over the previous year.

The report, which covers 12 months ending in September, shows Iowa with 24 bankruptcies, a rise of 10 from a year ago.

Nebraska is tied with Kansas and Georgia for the most farm bankruptcies in the past year while Iowa is tied for the fourth largest increase.

The report says the rise in bankruptcies is tied to tariffs on agriculture product and adverse planting, growing and harvesting conditions.

Overall, Chapter 12 farm bankruptcies are up 24% from the previous 12 months.

The highest number of farm bankruptcies occurred in Wisconsin, with 48.
