Don't be fooled by some of those weather maps showing up on social media that show lots of snow for the metro later this week.
6 News First Alert Meteorologist David Koeller tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB, "There is a big change heading our way by the end of the week. Temperatures will really be dropping off. The good news is we are going to see some rain but most of the snow chances will be staying to our north. A snowflake or two, not out of the question but accumulating snow is going to stay up in South Dakota, well off to our north. There have been a lot of maps coming out on social media showing outrageous snowfall amounts. Those are just being shared to scare you. It is going to get cold. It is going to feel like winter but we are really not expecting a lot of snowfall in our neck of the woods."
Temperatures will be seasonal Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday will start out with highs in the 60's but that will change when a cold front moves through. Koeller says that temperatures could drop 15 to 25 degrees quickly and lows will be in the 40's or possibly in the 30's by 10 p.m.
A killing freeze is likely by Saturday morning. That means it is time to cover your plants as temperatures will be in the 20's across the region by Saturday morning. The good news is there a warm up in the forecast for next week.
