HARRISON COUNTY, Iowa - Another reminder to keep your eyes on the road and perhaps don't rely quite as much on technology.
Flooding forced traffic off the interstate system and onto other roads in Harrison and Pottawattamie Counties. Those behind the wheel of big rigs relied on their GPS. That perhaps led to several accidents when the drivers didn't take notice of how tall their trailers were.
Tuesday night a semi taller than the 12' 5" tried to make it through an 11 foot tunnel. Wednesday, a second truck did the same thing.
The signs on the detour route are clearly marked and warn truck drivers of the clearance requirements on a bridge.
Dave Lyon owns a repair shop near Underwood and he tells 6 News that they have been busy towing semis from that overpass. He estimates they have done between 20 and 30 since March.
Law enforcement are trying to keep tabs on the situation and have turned around dozens of vehicles that were not able to fit under the lower clearance.
