Ground has been broken on Avenue One, a $1.2 billion dollar development near 192nd and West Dodge that is being called Omaha's "Western Gateway."
The project has been will cover about 50 city blocks and will include a business park, shops, restaurants, apartments and a hotel.
“We believe over the next 15 to 20 years this landscape that we see out here is going to be transformed into a high-density, mixed-use project that can be a benefit not only to the city but to all the neighborhoods that are connected to Avenue One,” says developer Curt Hofer.
There will also be six miles of walking trails and developers also have plans for a pedestrian bridge over West Dodge that will connect to Youngman Lake.
Construction of the development is expected to take 15-20 years and 6,500 permanent jobs will be created when it's finished.
