OMAHA, Neb. - When it comes to the City of Omaha's next solid waste contract, Mayor Jean Stothert wants to know four things.
What services does city council want?
What company will it support?
How much will the city pay?
And how will it reach consensus?
The deadline is getting close for the City of Omaha to choose a contractor for solid and yard waste collection.
The two companies competing for the contract are FCC Environmental and West Central Sanitation.
"FCC, which I have recommended and I still do, they did come back with the highest number of trucks, the highest number of personnel no matter what option you looked at," said Stothert.
She says FCC was the highest bidder and she questions why city council wants the lowest.
"And it really, really concerns me that the council would consider the lowest bidder that really does not have the resources now and would have to, again, go to the bank and borrow money to provide those resources. We are really under the gun now with time."
Omaha City Council rejected the Mayor's recommendation of FCC Environmental last week.
According to 6 News, the city received 2,598 complaints for missed collections over six days in June.
