Flooding Risk Moves Santa Lucia Festival Further Inland

Due to flooding, the Santa Lucia Festival will not be held at the Lewis and Clark Landing.

Festival organizers met with the City of Omaha Tuesday morning and decided that the 95th Festival will be held in the parking lot just west of the Landing.

The city of Omaha is closely monitoring the rising Missouri River and told committee President Todd Procopio it is possible the flood gates would have to be closed at any point this week.

“Setup for this year’s festival had to start on Tuesday to meet Thursday’s opening night. Had set-up begun on the landing, and then the flood gates closed, the festival would have been forced to shut down, said Procopio.”

The festival will not be downsized do to the location change. The west parking lot will fully support all the operations, activities and Triumphal Arch. Procopio says the city has been extremely accommodating throughout this difficult process.

The Santa Lucia Festival is one of the Midwest’s longest running festivals. It was established in 1925.

This year’s event is June 6th through the 9th.
