More water will be released at the Gavins Point Dam starting Saturday. Officials say this is "uncharted territory" and the outcome is unpredictable. The release was increased to 70,000 cubic feet per second on Wednesday. That number will go up to 75,000 cubic feet per second on Saturday.
6 News spoke with an Emergency Management team on Friday and they said what will come is not known.
Roads continue to close. Last night, the road that leads to the Plattsmouth Bridge in Mills County, Iowa closed. Much of I-29 is closed south of Loveland to the Missouri border.
The result of the extra water releases from Gavins Point won't be seen in the area for a few days.
Larry Hurst, the Director of Mills County Emergency Management, tells 6 News, “Not knowing the integrity of these levees we have remaining, so much water saturation that we could have in the middle of the night another portion fails and more water starts to come in.”
People are asked to remain alert and stay informed. They are also reminded to stay off of closed roads.
