A man convicted of a deadly drunk driving crash has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. Vismar Carmona-Martinez, who was in the country illegally, pleaded no contest to motor vehicle homicide-DUI for a New Years Day 2018 crash on the Kennedy Freeway took the life of 67 year old Ann Smock.
Police say Carmona-Martinez was driving a Chevy Malibu north on Highway 75. Witnesses said he was traveling over the speed limit and slammed into the back end of a Chevy Spark driven by Smock. His car then crossed two northbound lanes on Highway 75 and hit a concrete barrier.
Carmona-Martinez was 19 at the time and had a Blood Alcohol Content of .24, three times the legal limit. In addition to the prison time Carmona-Martinez also had his license revoked for 15 years. After serving his sentence he will be deported.
