Man Sentenced After Altercation Ends With Shots Fired

Monroe Evans III is sentenced to 13 to 25 years in prison for an incident in January of 2017 at Dewey Park.

An investigation conducted by Omaha Police, Officer Jill Shillerberg and Officer Matthew Skradski were questioning Evans.He matched the description of a suspicious party who had been looking into windows.Officers were patting Evans down for weapons when a struggle started.

The report shows that Evans fired a handgun and struck Officer Shillerberg. The bullet grazed her leg and traveled through her boot and hit the ground.Both officers returned fire and struck Evans in his shoulder, arms, legs and torso.

Evans was sentenced for assaulting an officer, attempting to commit a felony and use of a firearm to commit a felony.

Evans remains hospitalized under police guard.
