Two drivers had to be rescued from their vehicles after driving through the flood zone in Fremont County, Iowa Saturday morning. The sheriff's department says the first incident happened just after 1:30 a.m. when a Kansas man called law enforcement to say that he hit a retaining wall and was in the water.
Deputies located the 2015 Hyundai Azera at the temporary levee on Highway 333 where it had ended up nose-first in the water. The man was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device.
Later in the morning a Sheriff's deputy was patrolling and saw a semi in the floodwater at Highway 2 and 195th Ave. A boat was called to rescue the Minnesota-based driver.
The semi had gone around two barricades on 195th Ave. when the truck went off the road and got stuck on the shoulder. That driver was also cited for failure to obey a traffic control device as well as driving through a safety zone and being in an evacuated area.
Neither driver sustained injuries.
