Omaha Man Accused Of Starving Dogs To Death

An Omaha man has been arrested after authorities say he starved his two dogs to death. On Tuesday morning officers with the Metro Fugitive Task Force served a felony arrest warrant for animal cruelty. The warrant was obtained by investigators with the Nebraska Humane Society.

Mark Langan with the Nebraska Humane Society says the investigation shows that 43 year old Shane Palmer allowed two adult Pit Bulls to starve to death while in his care and control.

Langan says on January 9 the two dead dogs were found after they had been thrown down an embankment to the east of Palmer’s house near 14th and Evans Street.

A necropsy by an NHS veterinarian verified the cause of death as starvation. This is the second similar arrest in the past 2 weeks.  Ayeshea Colbenson was arrested on January 24 for letting her dog starve to death.

"There is no excuse for owning a dog and letting it starve," Langan says.    The Nebraska Humane Society is a resource for the public, offering programs and services to those pet owners in need.

"We accept any pet for any reason," Langan says.
