After nearly four decades with Gretna Public Schools, Superintendent Kevin Riley has announced that he will be retiring at the end of the school year.
At Monday night's school board meeting, Riley announced that he will finish out his 20 years as superintendent on June 30th.
Riley has worked for the district for the last 37 years, spending his first three years as an assistant principal before serving as the principal of Gretna High School for fourteen years. In his time as superintendent, Riley has overseen incredible growth in the district, which has grown from just over 1,300 kids in 1999, to over 5,000 students today.
The school board is currently in talks with Assistant Superintendent Rich Beran to take over Riley's position.
