Convicted Murderer Vanishes From Lincoln Work Release Program

A convicted murderer has vanished from a Lincoln work release program.

Nebraska Department of Correctional Services officials say 40 year old Anthony Gafford walked away from his work-release program Saturday morning. Gafford reportedly left the Community Corrections Center-Lincoln around 6:00 to head to work, but never returned.

Gafford was sentenced to 30 to 50 years in prison for the 1997 killing of sixteen year old Jacque Holbert. Gafford, who was nineteen when he was charged with Second Degree Murder, reportedly shot Holbert on September 15th, 1997 after Holbert allegedly stared down Gafford as their cars passed.

Like his father, Jacque's now grown son, 21 year old Jacque S. “Jack” Holbert IV, was also shot and killed. Jack was shot on January 20th while he slept in a home near 38th and Burdette. No suspects have been identified in that case and no arrests have been made.

Gafford was scheduled to be released on December 11th, 2022, and had an upcoming parole date in April.
