Elkhorn Principal Resigns Following Christmas Controversy

An Elkhorn educator is stepping down from her leadership position following a Christmas controversy at her school.

In December, Manchester Elementary School Principal Jennifer Sinclair sent a letter to parents outlining Christmas related items, including candy canes and Christmas trees, that would not be allowed in the classroom. Sinclair said the move came in order to be inclusive and sensitive to students who do not celebrate the holiday.

The ban resulted in blow back from parents and the community and garnered world-wide attention. The school district placed Sinclair on administrative leave until a decision about her future with the district could be made.

At Monday night's Elkhorn Public Schools board meeting, members unanimously voted to accept the resignation of Sinclair. The self-dubbed "Unintentional Grinch who stole Christmas from Manchester" will take on a curriculum role within the district until the end of the school year.

Sinclair did issue an apology to parents following the incident.
