Omaha Police Tout Record-Breaking Homicide Free Streak

Over the past three years, homicidal crime in the metro area has been slowly improving, but the gap from last year to this year is impressive. Omaha Police say that's thanks to a record-breaking streak that both police and the public should be proud of.

On Wednesday, Omaha Police tweeted that it had been 101 days since a homicide was committed in the Omaha metro. That is a consecutive-day record for homicidal crime in the city.

Since 2015, homicide prevention has improved, but 2018 has seen a significant drop in crime.

There have been eight fewer homicides this year than last year and the number of homicides in North Omaha were cut in half. Just three years ago, there were 48 homicides in the metro area and this year, only 22.
