Neighboring Businesses Seek Answers After Explosion

Some Omaha businesses are wondering why little progress has been made to remove an eyesore in their parking lot.

Their concerns are due to the remnants of an explosion at a dry cleaners near 168th and Harrison, a case which is being investigated as arson.

The Wardrobe Spa went up in flames in October. The Fire Marshal’s Office say the fire was the result of an explosion after someone tampered with the natural gas system in business.

Operators of nearby businesses tell 6 News they haven't received any update on what will happen to the building. It was half burned down and it’s surrounded by a fence taking up a large portion of the parking lot.

Since the investigation is ongoing the building must remain as is.  Shelly Rhoden works at Moxie workers felt the blast. After a few months of no movement she says it's an eyesore that is taking up space.

“Build something else,” she told 6 News. “It’s a busy area. I think it be a good spot for a lot of different things.”

6 News says the attorney representing the owner of the dry cleaner said it’s a waiting game for his client.  Authorities have made no arrests in connection to the investigation.

Total estimated damage to the structure, not including equipment, is $350,000.
