Following the tragic death of a Millard West student this weekend, the family of Blake McCune has issued a statement.
McKune's body was found in a ditch on Sunday near 192nd and Harrison. His parents reported him missing Saturday night.
"At this time, our family is heartbroken by the tragic loss of our son Blake, a 17-year-old senior at Millard West High School. We will forever cherish the time we had with him. He was a free spirit who lived on the edge and he had a kind heart that touched many lives."
His famils also says Blake "was strong in his faith through the youth group at the Water's Edge Church. He enjoyed participating in wrestling and rugby during his time at Millard West and was looking forward to embarking on a career as a firefighter. We appreciate everyone’s thoughts, prayers and respect for our privacy during this time of sorrow and recovery."
Hundreds attended a prayer vigil at the church last night near 180th and Harrison. Investigators have said no foul play is suspected, but the cause of his death is not yet known.
