The man accused of shooting an Omaha Police Gang Unit officer last month during a traffic stop at 30th and Laurel is out of the hospital and in a jail cell.
Police say John Ezell, a known gang member, shot officer Ken Fortune through the radio microphone. The bullet ended up in his shoulder. Ezell was shot several times by two other officers during the September 11th traffic stop.
He was released from the hospital on Wednesday and taken to jail where he was booked for Attempted Murder, 1st Degree Assault of an Officer and two counts of Use of a Weapon and Possession of a firearm by a Prohibited Person.
Officer Fortune recovered from his wounds and returned to duty earlier this month.
